Adv. JL (Mac) van der Merwe SC

JL (Mac) van der Merwe SC is a longstanding member of the Pretoria Society of Advocates.

He studied at the Potchefstroom University and attained the B Comm (law) and LLB degrees whereafter he trained as a prosecutor and was subsequently invited to lecture at the Potchefstroom University in the law of contract, succession law and the interpretation of statutes.

In his practice as advocate he did commercial work of virtually all kinds and he appeared many times in the highest courts of the country over an extended period of time.

He successfully completed a course in mediation in 2025 through MiM at the University of Cape Town. He is enthusiastic about mediation that in many instances open the opportunity for parties to obtain better outcomes than with court litigation.
