Cheree Olivier

I am a dedicated, highly motivated and multi-skilled Legal Professional with over 7 years of experience working in challenging roles, delivering bespoke legal solutions to companies in the mediation, legal and educational industries.

Currently, I am part of the leadership team at WeMediate, where I head up the company’s legal network, providing strategic leadership, working closely with legal suppliers and advising company executives. My role involves working on contractual agreements, advising company management on legal issues, supervising all legal partners and managing legal affairs. I collaborate with counsel, psychologists, social workers, mediators and regulatory agencies. I also provide guidance on company secretarial matters and act as the Information Officer. I have been instrumental in supporting the establishment of the company, providing legal opinions on family law matters, interpreting case law, and providing guidance and opinions as necessary.

Parallel to my role at WeMediate, I have been a full-time doctoral candidate since 2019. I am a highly motivated researcher with a strong academic profile and expertise in comparative legal research and compliance with international conventions and policy. I possess excellent writing skills and have published in peer-reviewed law journals. I have a proven ability to develop and monitor project budgets in line with donor requirements, manage time efficiently and work to tight deadlines. I maintain a professional manner, display a high level of integrity and am a confident communicator who enjoys being part of a productive team.

Prior to these roles, I gained valuable experience as a Candidate Attorney at EW Serfontein & Associates Inc in 2022, a Tutor at 123 Tutors in 2021, and a Legal Researcher and Doctoral Programme Coordinator at the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa (ICLA) at the University of Pretoria from 2019 to 2021.

My qualifications include accreditation as a mediator with ADR Network SA, an Advanced LLM in International Law (Cum Laude) from Leiden University, Netherlands, in 2018, an LLM in Trade and Investment Law in Africa from the University of Pretoria in 2017, and an LLB (Cum Laude) from the University of Pretoria in 2015.
